A Kyrgyz businessman has been unable to start construction of a five-star hotel in the city of Cholpon-Ata for a year due to extortion by officials. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov announced during the ceremony of opening of a new park.
According to him, a year ago he gathered the deputies, the head of the district, the mayor of the city in the residence and asked to support the entrepreneur who planned to build a hotel.
«The deputies hindered the businessman in every possible way, asked him to give them money. I said that we were attracting investors from abroad to build hotels, resorts and parks. And the internal investor, the local guy, is not allowed to build a hotel. I asked the deputies not to do so. But, unfortunately, they did not listen to me. Construction of the hotel has not yet begun. More than a year has passed. A deputy named Urmat, it turns out, took 1 million soms, said that he would oppose and would call on other deputies to do so. They came on behalf of the youth and took $10,000 from the businessman. The entrepreneur, he says, gave the money to close their mouths and finally start construction,» Sadyr Japarov said.
Sadyr Japarov opened a new park in Cholpon-Ata on Tuesday evening.
