Health Ministry plans to denounce agreement with Arab fund for $22 million

The Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan plans to denounce the agreement with the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development on the project for construction and equipping the Neurosurgical Center of the National Hospital. The Deputy Head of the ministry Tilek Mamadaliev announced at a meeting of the Committee on Budget, Economic and Fiscal Policy of the Parliament.

The law on ratification of the aforementioned agreement was signed by the former president Almazbek Atambayev in 2016.

The Deputy Minister noted that within the framework of the project, the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development was to allocate 6 million Kuwaiti dinars in the form of a soft loan (at the then exchange rate — about $ 22 million) to finance the construction and equipping of the Neurosurgical Center of the National Hospital.

«But the project was not implemented due to the pandemic and other objective and subjective reasons. We are not refusing the loan now, but we plan to spend the funds on another area of medicine,» he said.

Tilek Mamadaliev stressed that no financial transactions have been carried out under the project for seven years.
