Rosselkhoznadzor finds GMOs in corn seeds from Kyrgyzstan

During the control of products imported into the Russian Federation, Rosselkhoznadzor revealed GMOs in corn seeds with a volume of 14.2 tons (356 bags) from Kyrgyzstan. Website of the organization says.

In addition, there were no documents confirming the varietal and sowing qualities of the seed material. The marking (label) on the bags contained incomplete information.

Rosselkhoznadzor informed the Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic about this fact. Until the end of this week, negotiations will be held with the Kyrgyz side on the fact of the supply of GMO seeds and measures have been taken to prevent such cases.

Kyrgyzstan has signed the Cartagena Protocol, according to which the import and reproduction of plant products and GMO seeds is allowed. Russia did not sign the document. Therefore, the import of GMO seeds into the Russian Federation, except for research purposes, is prohibited.
