The head of Eye Microsurgery Hospital, Almazbek Ismankulov, will be under arrest until June 9. The Oktyabrsky District Court of Bishkek made the decision to extend the period of his detention.
It was reported earlier that a criminal case was initiated against Almazbek Ismankulov and officials of the City Hall for corruption.
«It was found out during an inspection that the head of the hospital and several responsible officials of the structural divisions of the Bishkek City Hall committed criminal acts in order to illegally obtain material interests and other privileges. Despite the fact that the building of the 2nd unit of Clinical Hospital No. 6 cannot be rented out to individuals, and despite the acute shortage of hospital beds, they illegally rented it out deliberately lowering size of the rent. As a result, the state suffered material damage in the amount of 93,162,576 soms. The investigation is ongoing,» the Prosecutor General’s Office said in a statement.
Another defendant in the case, Talant Ryskulbek uulu, director of the Municipal Property Management Department of the Bishkek City Hall, was placed under house arrest for the same period.
According to investigators, the building of the second unit of the City Hospital No. 6 was transferred to Almazbek Ismankulov and his hospital illegally.
In March 2023, the City Hall terminated the lease agreement with the Eye Microsurgery Hospital, which had occupied premises of the Clinical Hospital No. 6 for many years.
