An increase in the level of general childhood disability is predicted in the next three years in Kyrgyzstan. The adopted state program «Accessible Country» says.
According to the document, there are many reasons for the increase in disability rates, including:
- Growth in the number of cardiovascular and oncological diseases;
- Increase in the number of injuries (both industrial and domestic);
- Late examination of pregnant women (congenital pathologies);
- Lack of patronage in Family Medicine Centers;
- High cost of examinations and treatment;
- Remoteness from infrastructure;
- Interest of both the citizens themselves and medical personnel in obtaining a disability group;
- Increase in the size of social benefits;
- Poverty, legal illiteracy of parents;
- Internal and external migration;
- Alcoholism of parents;
- Consanguineous marriages;
- Ecology and globalization;
- Deterioration in food quality;
- Lack of iodine and iron in the diet of mothers.
More than 200,000 people with disabilities lived in the republic in 2022, including more than 35,000 children.
«In recent years, in Kyrgyzstan, as well as throughout the world, the number of sick children is growing. The total child disability in the country increased from 29,300 in 2016 to 35,000 in 2022 (19 percent). The greatest increase in disability rates is observed for the following pathologies — congenital developmental anomalies (32.8 percent), diseases of the nervous system (20.3 percent), mental disorders (15.3 percent),» the state program says.
