Earthquake in Turkey: Kyrgyzstanis collect six tons of humanitarian aid

Kyrgyzstanis collected about six tons of humanitarian aid for victims of the devastating earthquakes in Turkey.

The necessary things (winter clothes, blankets, pillows, diapers, hygiene products, etc.) were brought by caring citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic to the Turkish Embassy in Bishkek.

According to the diplomatic mission, the first batch of humanitarian aid has already been sent by air from Manas airport.

«We express our gratitude to the Kyrgyz people, the government and the diasporas in Kyrgyzstan for their help and support,» the Embassy of Turkey said in a statement.

Earlier it was reported that the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Bishkek City Hall opened points for collection of humanitarian aid for victims of the earthquake in a number of Turkish cities.

Two earthquakes of magnitude 7.8 and 7.5 hit southern Turkey on February 6 near Gaziantep city, where more than a million people live. Dozens of aftershocks were registered in Syria, Georgia and other countries.

The Turkish Embassy in Kyrgyzstan announced collection of humanitarian aid. A single deposit account has been opened in Kyrgyzstan to raise funds to help the victims.

The number of victims of the earthquake in Turkey exceeded 24,500 people, more than 80,000 were injured. Almost 4,500 people are reported dead in Syria also affected by the earthquake.
