The level of use of torture has decreased over five years in Kyrgyzstan. Bakyt Rysbekov, Director of the National Center for Torture Prevention, announced at the international forum «Achievements and prospects of the Kyrgyz Republic in respect of the right to freedom from torture and ill-treatment».
According to him, the statistics of the use of torture from 2018 to 2022 decreased 1.5 times.
«In addition, the number of witnesses to the use of torture has decreased by 1.8 times for five years. If in 2018 every eighth spoke about torture, then every fifth speaks about it today. Young people under 30 are most vulnerable. Women are most often tortured. Our common efforts are bearing fruit. But I would like to note that we can achieve better results,» Bakyt Rysbekov said.
