Rolling blackouts planned in Kyrgyzstan on November 10-11

Restrictions on the consumption of electricity and power are planned in Kyrgyzstan on November 10-11, but not more than for an hour. Aibek Aidaraliev, General Director of Electric Stations OJSC, announced at a press conference on Thursday.

According to him, within the framework of the project «Reconstruction of Toktogul HPP», work on the rehabilitation of hydromechanical equipment and repair of gates is being completed at the hydroelectric unit No. 2. All repair work is almost completed, commissioning tests and testing of equipment performance are underway.

«Initially, it was planned to put the unit into operation on November 15, 2022. But it was decided, due to the cold weather, to speed up the work and put the hydroelectric unit No. 2 into operation on November 11, 2022. In this regard, there will be restrictions on the supply of electricity during the hours of the morning and evening maximum consumption, but for a short time only. Power supply restrictions are associated with the process of testing new hydro-mechanical equipment to ensure reliable and safe operation of the equipment. Everything will work as usual after November 11,» Aibek Aidaraliev said.

He noted that it is planned to commission the hydroelectric unit No. 4 of the Toktogul HPP at the end of November 2022. During this period, there may also be restrictions on the supply of electricity.

«We are trying to avoid this, but all systems and equipment are interconnected. Therefore, restrictions on the supply of electricity are also possible at the end of November,» he concluded.
