Kempir-Abad: Deputy calls for release of all arrested

The detained members of the Committee for protection of Kempir-Abad reservoir did not call for riots. Deputy Zhanar Akayev stated at a meeting of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan.

He noted that four deputies had previously visited those arrested in Bishkek remand center 1.

«They all said there was no call for riots. They say that they planned only peaceful meetings to express their opinions. Activist Atai Beishenbek did not participate in that meeting, he did not call, he just wrote a post on Facebook. Their cases must be fairly considered in the city court. All of them must be released not to strain the political situation. Or let’s write in the Constitution that more than two people are not allowed to gather,» Zhanar Akayev said.

The Committee for protection of Kempir-Abad reservoir was created on October 22. It includes activists, politicians and MPs. On the same day, in an interview with Kabar news agency, President Sadyr Japarov said: the authorities have information who was behind the rallies and marches on Kempir-Abad issue.

Mass searches began on October 23; more than 20 people were detained and placed in remand centers of Bishkek and Chui region.

A number of international human rights organizations such as the International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR), the World Organization Against Torture (OMCT), the Norwegian Helsinki Committee (NHC), the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (HFHR), Freedom Now and others issued a statement calling for the immediate release of politicians and activists arrested in Kyrgyzstan.
