More than 7,000 Russians apply for citizenship of Kyrgyzstan

More than 7,000 Russians have applied for citizenship of Kyrgyzstan. Minister of Digital Development of Kyrgyzstan, Talantbek Imanov, announced at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on transport, communications, architecture and construction.

Deputies are discussing amendments to the law on civil status acts. It is proposed to grant a refugee status to the Russians who arrived in the Kyrgyz Republic after the announcement of partial mobilization in the Russian Federation.

Deputy Tazabek Ikramov asked how many Russians obtained citizenship of the Kyrgyz Republic.

«At least 192,000 Russian citizens arrived in the country for nine months. 603 people of them obtained citizenship of Kyrgyzstan, 7,200 applied for citizenship,» the official said.

The deputy opposed granting of citizenship of the country to Russians who arrived after mobilization.

«There are terrorist attacks, and then it turns out that the organizer is some citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic. Be ashamed of selling the country’s passports, issuing them to everyone. We have to grant citizenship to those who attract large investments in the Kyrgyz Republic, and not to those who flee,» Tazabek Ikramov said.

Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Fighting in Ukraine continues. The number of casualties among the military and civilians is growing. Many countries have imposed severe sanctions against the Russian Federation.

On September 21, the President Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilization in the Russian Federation.
