Kyrgyzstan to develop green financing through PPP projects

Minister of Economy and Commerce of Kyrgyzstan Daniyar Amangeldiev met with the General Director of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Mahamadu Tunkara and Achala Abeysinghe, the Asia Regional Director and Head of Programs at GGGI, as well as with the President of the Assembly and Chair of the Global Green Growth Institute Ban Ki-moon. The meetings were organized within the framework of the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Kyrgyz-Korean Commission on economic cooperation in the city of Seoul (Korea). Issues of cooperation in the field of green economy development were discussed. The Kyrgyz side said that the Ministry of Economy and Commerce has been pursuing a policy of integration of the green economy in the Kyrgyz Republic.

It was noted that Kyrgyzstan sets ambitious goals for a systematic transition to an economic model. At the same time, a balance must be struck between reorienting the economy and strengthening work towards one of the important tools for ensuring sustainable development. As part of the development of a green economy in the country, the process of building the right structure of incentives is underway, and for this a stable state system of preferences in the tax sphere is being created.

In turn, GGGI representatives made a presentation about their activities, partners, strategic results and their services.

A number of projects are currently being developed with the Kyrgyz Republic, such as the National Financing Facility to introduce and scale up green finance through a PPP model. It is also envisaged to launch green lending through banks to increase climate resilience and strengthen climate action and community resilience by encouraging green entrepreneurship.

To strengthen the development of bilateral cooperation, Kyrgyzstan proposed to consider the possibility of opening a country headquarters / office of the Global Green Growth Institute in the Kyrgyz Republic.

It was noted that Kyrgyzstan is ready to study the issue of opening the headquarters in the country. Daniyar Amangeldiev expressed the ministry’s readiness for mutually beneficial and multi-vector cooperation on the development of the green economy with each interested participant in all areas, especially on the green agenda.
