Situation at Kyrgyz-Tajik border relatively stable

As of 8.30 a.m. on September 22, the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border is characterized as relatively stable. The Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The night passed quietly, no incidents were registered.

Work continues to detect, neutralize and clear border areas from unexploded ordnance, mines, ammunition and other explosives.

The working commissions of the parties are taking measures to de-escalate the situation and check the implementation of agreements on the withdrawal of additional forces and means from the state border line to their places of permanent deployment.

Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 59 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
