We have never attacked first - Sadyr Japarov about invasion of Tajikistan

Kyrgyzstan has documented evidence of the illegal actions of the Tajik side over the past years. President Sadyr Japarov stated speaking at the General Debate of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.

He noted that the acts of unprovoked armed aggression on the part of Tajikistan are all the more depressing, since international treaties and obligations have been concluded between the countries.

«We are ready to continue the negotiation process with our Tajik partners in any format. Taking into account the fact that our trust has been shaken due to the recent illegal actions by our neighbors, nevertheless we are ready to continue negotiations and international mediation, including the UN, OSCE, CSTO,» Sadyr Japarov said.

«We have never started first. We always tried to avoid the use of weapons, and even more so we have never shot at unarmed civilians. We have to respond every time. In this regard, I would like to emphasize the following: the Kyrgyz side does not claim foreign lands, but it does not intend to cede a centimeter of its land to anyone,» the head of state said.

He repeated that all border and economic issues should be resolved at the negotiating table.

«The most important issue today is the adoption of urgent measures to ensure security and stability in the border areas, suppression of any actions aimed at increasing tension among the local population, strengthening confidence between our two states. We are always ready for negotiations and for clarifying sections of the border,» the President stressed.

Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 59 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.

The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
