As of 3 p.m. on September 20, ten schools and seven kindergartens were damaged as a result of an armed invasion at the Kyrgyz-Tajik border in Batken region. Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan Nadira Dzhusupbekova told.
According to her, educational process has been temporarily suspended in 195 educational institutions in Batken region. Evacuation points were organized at the premises of 53 of them.
At least 45 schools and 23 kindergartens are working in Leilek district, 21 schools and 40 kindergartens are not working yet.
The educational process continues in all educational organizations in Kadamdzhai district and Kyzyl-Kiya city. Only one school out of seven does not work in Sulukta.
Educational process has been suspended in two out of 11 professional lyceums in Batken region.
Education was suspended in 11 (27 percent) educational organizations in Chon-Alai district of Osh region.
«The full restoration of the educational process depends only on the appropriate decision of the headquarters under the conditions of ensuring the safety of people. A special state commission will determine the amount of damage caused and the amount of resources needed to improve the situation and return to peaceful life,» the Ministry of Education noted.
Emergency situation has been introduced in Batken region. Shooting began at several sites of the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on the morning of September 16. Settlements in Leilek and Batken district came under fire. The Ministry of Health reported 198 victims, 59 people were killed. As a result of the armed conflict on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border, residents of seven villages in Batken and Leilek districts, as well as Dzhekendi village in Chon-Alai district of Osh region, left their homes.
The Prosecutor General’s Office of Kyrgyzstan opened a criminal case on crimes against peace.
