Schools with Russian language of instruction 57 percent provided with textbooks

Provision of general education organizations of Kyrgyzstan with textbooks in the 2021/22 academic year reached 70.5 percent. Press service of the Ministry of Education and Science informed 24.kg news agency.

According to it, the best situation is in schools with the Kyrgyz language of instruction. They are 81.23 percent provided with textbooks. The indicator is slightly lower in schools with the Uzbek language of instruction — 76.62 percent.

Schools with Tajik and Russian languages of instruction are the worst of all provided with textbooks — 66.98 and 57.21 percent, respectively.

«About 120 million soms are allocated annually from the republican budget for the replication of textbooks. This amount does not cover the need for textbooks,» the ministry said.

However, the ministry did not specify the required amount. A few years ago it was stated that at least 600 million a year is needed to cover the deficit.

Every year parents complain about the lack of textbooks or their terrible condition. Parents can rent some textbooks from the school library, but some still have to be bought.
