Protest against deputy Shailoobek Atazov held in Bishkek

Protest was held in Bishkek against a deputy Shailoobek Atazov.

Three townspeople, residents of Sverdlovsky district of the capital, came to the building of the Parliament with a demand to dismiss the deputy of Parliament. Their protest is connected with the statement of Shailoobek Atazov.

At a meeting of Parliament, the deputy proposed to limit travel abroad for 18-20 year-old girls. In his opinion, they should travel abroad only accompanied by their parents or after marriage. Shailoobek Atazov connected this with problems in the field of migration.

This caused a resonance in society. Issue of withdrawal of the deputy’s mandate was raised. But the CEC explained that voters do not have such a right.

«We, residents of Sverdlovsky district, did not vote for Atazov. But every time he voices his opinion or speaks in Parliament, he is associated with our constituency. We are ashamed. Let him not dishonor our district and give up his mandate,» the protesters said.

According to them, the deputy’s proposal infringes on the rights of young women and violates the norms of the Constitution: Article 31, paragraph 2 states that «a citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic has the right to freely leave the country and return without hindrance.»

Shailoobek Atazov ran for Parliament first in Toloikon constituency, but did not pass. Later, he became a candidate in Sverdlovsky district, where he also did not get a majority of votes. However, his competitor-winner in the district, Abdurakhmankhadzhi Murtazaliev, was convicted of bribery and removed from the race, so the mandate went to Shailoobek Atazov.
