U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Donald Lu (former U.S. Ambassador to the Kyrgyz Republic — Note of 24.kg news agency), who leads a delegation, which will visit Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan from May 23 to 27, arrived in Bishkek.
He met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev, and Twitted about the meeting. His message was published by the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan. «During my first meeting with FM Kulubaev, we agreed to work together to promote security and stability in Central Asia and improve the Kyrgyz investment climate,» wrote Donald Lu.
In turn, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that during the meeting the parties discussed topical issues of Kyrgyz-American relations, as well as issues on the regional and global agendas.
«Importance of building up practical cooperation, which has a positive impact on the socio-economic development of Kyrgyzstan, was especially noted. In this regard, the possibilities of increasing investment cooperation were considered. Issues of minimizing the negative impact of international sanctions on the economy of Kyrgyzstan, as well as the need to intensify assistance in strengthening border security were also considered. Importance of interaction between the countries within the framework of C5 + 1 platform was stressed,» the Foreign Ministry of Kyrgyzstan reported.
At the end of the conversation, the parties reaffirmed their mutual intention to continue a constructive dialogue on a wide range of bilateral cooperation.
