Kyrgyzstan to receive $473,000 to improve well-being of elderly

As part of the UN World Food Program (WFP), $473,000 will be allocated to support the elderly living in targeted social residential institutions. The Embassy of Switzerland in Kyrgyzstan reported.

It is planned that the allocated amount will cover up to 1,200 people, including persons with disabilities, the elderly from six social residential institutions and those living in closed institutions.

Thanks to the contribution of Switzerland, WFP will improve conditions for access to water, sanitation and hygiene, as well as infrastructure of kitchen facilities. In addition, the organization will conduct trainings in special cooking for people suffering from various diseases. Access to a balanced diet will be provided. The staff of social residential institutions will also be able to prioritize and vary the menu.

The project will be implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Labour, Social Security and Migration at both the central and district levels.

The UN World Food Program in the Kyrgyz Republic is the agency coordinating critical food security and nutrition sectors during the COVID-19 crisis. In this role, WFP supported emergency food distribution, asset building and human capital building through cash assistance for the most vulnerable people across the country to meet their urgent food needs and support early recovery.
