Sugar beet areas reduced to 9,500 hectares due to drought in 2021. The Deputy Minister of Agriculture Azamat Mukashev told at a press conference.

According to him, the total area of ​​arable land in Kyrgyzstan is 1,226 million hectares. It is planned to increase it by 6,000 hectares, that is, to bring arable land to 1,232 million hectares.

«We will focus on grain crops. These are wheat, cereals, fodder crops — corn, barley, as well as perennial grasses. The rest of land will be used within the framework of the food security structure. In particular, area of sugar beet and raw material base for oilseed processing will increase. Last year, due to drought, the sugar beet areas decreased to 9,500 hectares. This year we plan to increase them to 14,500 hectares,» Azamat Mukashev said.
