Forests area increases in Kyrgyzstan over past 10 years

Kyrgyzstan has increased the forests area over the past 10 years. Almaz Musaev, director of the Forest Service, told a press conference in Bishkek.

According to him, in 2010, the territory of forests reached 5.6 percent of the total territory of the republic.

«In 2019-2020, we were supposed to complete an inventory to get the latest information. However, due to the pandemic, the process has been delayed. We are now getting information, based on which we can already conclude that the territory of the forests in the country not only has not declined but increased to about 6 percent. But it will be possible to give exact figures after counting of the data is completed,» Almaz Musaev said.

The total area of the State Forestry Fund of Kyrgyzstan is 2,619,700 hectares. At least 1,116,600 hectares are covered by forest. This is 5.6 percent of the total territory of the republic.
