«A serious discrepancy is growing in the development of the EAEU member states,» Akylbek Japarov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, said at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in an expanded format.
According to him, this state of affairs will increase the gap in the level of development and incomes of the population of the member states of the organization.
At the same time, the head of the Cabinet is sure that the states of the Union are able to stop this trend by creating prerequisites for the convergence of the economies of the member countries in terms of development and incomes of the population. «I propose to develop effective measures and specific mechanisms aimed at implementing proposals to create prerequisites for the convergence of member states in terms of economic development and incomes of the population and submit them to us for consideration in 2022,» he said.
Akylbek Japarov also noted that one of the most important activities of the EAEU should be the creation of conditions for increasing the internal stability of the economies of the member countries, including ensuring macroeconomic stability, as well as resistance to external influence. «But this direction is reduced solely to monitoring compliance by member states with the macroeconomic indicators set in the agreement, and making recommendations,» he noted.
The head of the Cabinet also drew attention to the fact that almost all states are currently experiencing external shocks and macroeconomic unrest. There are no algorithms to contain this pressure in the EAEU system.
«We already have experience when external pressure on one of the EAEU countries led to a cascading effect for the entire union. At the same time, geopolitical turbulence leads to increased tension and pressure on the economies of all member states of the organization. Under these conditions, having close economic ties, we must unite and jointly counter these challenges. To contain the negative external impact, it is necessary to take joint measures to level the external economic pressure on the EAEU. At the same time, it is necessary to develop programs for targeted support for the economic development of the organization in order to ensure macroeconomic stability and resistance to external shocks,» he concluded.
