Human rights activists ask president of Kyrgyzstan to sign Child Code

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov is asked to sign the Child Code. Organizations for the protection of the rights of children, women and vulnerable groups of the population began collecting signatures under an appeal to the head of state. Director of the Child Rights Defenders’ League Public Foundation Nazgul Turdubekova reported on Facebook.

The appeal notes that there is no child protection mechanism and special social workers in the country. At least 400 children suffered from violence in 2021; three have already become victims of torture and rape in 2022. One of them was burned alive due to neglect.

«These changes were included in the new version of the Child Code, which you promised to support. Unfortunately, the document got stuck in the Parliament, they want to abandon it. You are misled that allegedly the changes in the Code are not needed, they cost 9 billion soms. This is a lie! The real budget for changes to the Child Code is only 160 million,» the appeal says.

Human rights activists ask the president to meet with them so that they can prove the effectiveness of child protection mechanisms under the new version of the Code.
