At least 201 facts of illegal deforestation have been revealed in Kyrgyzstan in 2021. The head of the Department for Development of Forest Ecosystems Bakyt Yrsaliev told at a press conference in Bishkek.
«Cases of unauthorized deforestation have been registered on the territory of Dzheti-Oguz, Karakol and other forestry. In total, 534 cubic meters of forest have been cut down in the republic in this way. The damage is estimated at 3,500 million soms,» he said.
The total area of the State Forest Fund of Kyrgyzstan is 2,619,700 hectares, at least 1,116,600 hectares of which are covered with forest. This is only 5.6 percent of the total territory of the republic.
