Collection of Ivan Bunin's stories in Kyrgyz published in Bishkek

A collection of stories by an outstanding Russian writer, Nobel Prize winner Ivan Bunin was published in the Kyrgyz language for the first time in Kyrgyzstan. Oleg Bondarenko, head of the Association of Publishers and Book Distributors, told 24.kg news agency.

The collection was published under the title «Dark Alleys».

«Ivan Bunin wrote this book far from his homeland — in France. He was very worried about the consequences of the Bolshevik revolution and the difficult years after the World War I. The works that make up this cycle are imbued with motifs of the tragic fate of man, the inevitability of doom and longing for his homeland. The central theme of the collection of stories — is love, which is closely linked with the suffering and fatal outcome,» Oleg Bondarenko said.

The author of this translation is Tashtan Chakiev, a famous poet and translator in Kyrgyzstan. According to him, not all of Ivan Bunin’s stories were included in the book.

Tashtan Chakiev was awarded the Golden Pen of Russia prize and the Ivan Bunin Medal for his translation of this book.
