Kyrgyzstan not consider imposing lockdown due to new COVID-19 strain

«Kyrgyzstan does not consider the issue of imposing a lockdown due to the new Omicron strain yet,» Baktygul Ismailova, Chief Specialist of the Public Health Department of the Ministry of Health, said at a briefing.

According to her, another type of coronavirus contains 32 mutations. «In order to take preventive measures, the Ministry of Health, by order of the Cabinet of Ministers, is reviewing the change in the algorithm for entering the country. There is already a decision that entry is possible only with a negative PCR test done within the last 72 hours,» Baktygul Ismailova said.

No other restrictive measures are planned for now, she said. Ismailova urged to observe sanitary requirements and get vaccinated.

Requirement for a compulsory PCR testing (within the last 72 hours) is introduced for people entering the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic from December 1. Foreigners and Kyrgyzstanis will need to undergo and have a negative result of a PCR test for coronavirus infection before arrival in the Kyrgyz Republic, regardless of the vaccination status.
