Five-year program to improve quality of medical services launched in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is launching a five-year «Foundations for Health and Empowerment» program to improve the quality of healthcare services, early development of children and services for sustainable development. The Aga Khan Foundation reports.

The new program is expected to improve the quality of services through increased capacity of medical institutions by using best practice methodologies and course development approaches and equip maternal and child health departments in 16 health care facilities, as well as two oncological centers.

The project will be implemented in Osh, Jalal-Abad and Naryn regions. The budget for the current phase is $2 million. It is funded by the Government of Canada and the Aga Khan Foundation.

The goal of the program is to reduce barriers to the provision of health care and early development of children. Gender and reproductive programs will be integrated into the education plans of 30 schools. Students’ knowledge of hygiene, nutrition, physical activity and healthy lifestyle will be improved at these schools.
