Bilateral meeting of the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Odile Renaud-Basso and Managing Director for Central Asia of EBRD took place within the framework of the first European Union — Central Asia forum. Akylbek Japarov stressed that the EBRD is an important partner of Kyrgyzstan, which provides significant support in the implementation of projects in priority sectors of the economy.
The parties discussed the progress in the implementation of projects in the field of water supply and sewerage, public transport and energy.
«I would like to take this opportunity to ask for your assistance in supporting new significant projects for the country on the development of priority sectors of the economy. Support of development partners in the implementation of strategic goals, ongoing and planned reforms is very important for the country,» Akylbek Japarov said.
The parties also discussed issues related to the situation in the energy sector of Kyrgyzstan. The emphasis was placed on the transition to alternative renewable energy sources.
The EBRD senior executives, in turn, said that the bank has a lot of experience in generating capacities, and the organization is ready to provide consulting services in the preparation of projects.
At the end of the meeting, the parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Finance and the EBRD regarding the preparation of a project to improve sustainability of the infrastructure of Kyrgyz Temir Zholu state enterprise, protocol of negotiations between the Ministry of Finance and the EBRD on the project «Climate Resilient Water Supply in the Kyrgyz Republic.»
