Information center for children with disabilities opened in Bishkek

A new Information center of equal opportunities Kamkor was opened at the republican library for children and youth named after Kasymaly Bayalinov.

According to a coordinator Madina Sydykova, the center has been operating since 1999, but its main focus was the musical and theatrical development of children. A children’s theater Sunny City was created on its basis.

«With the opening of the new information center, its capabilities and functions have expanded,» said Madina Sydykova.

According to her, the U.S. Embassy in Kyrgyzstan supported the project on expanding the center. «Now we have the opportunity to teach children not only art, but also computer literacy, English, handicraft. We also want to attract schoolchildren and students to the center in order they can communicate, make friends with children with disabilities and in order our special children not to feel disadvantaged. This is our main goal,» Madina Sydykova added.

The republican library allocated four rooms on the ground floor for the center. There are classes for computer and the English language courses, as well as a room for art therapy, where children can draw, dance, and develop their creative skills. Another room is the kitchen, where children and adults learn culinary art.

The center works with children with autism, cerebral palsy, mental disorders, as well as visually impaired and blind.
