Kyrgyzstan's Foreign Ministry dissatisfied with U.S. Department of State report

A meeting with the U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kyrgyz Republic Donald Lu took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan.

According to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the recent report of the U.S. Department of State on human rights in the world was discussed.

«It was stressed that the American side in its report for 2018 noted significant positive changes in the Kyrgyz Republic compared with the previous years. At the same time, the Kyrgyz side drew attention to the fact that many of the points indicated in the report were information from NGOs and various public organizations. Inadmissibility of defining detention of some former high-ranking officials as political was particularly stressed, since they were specifically charged with corruption and the trial has not yet been completed,» the Foreign Ministry said.

According to the Foreign Ministry, this fact was perceived by society as an attempt to influence the judicial process and interference in internal affairs.

Donald Lu noted that the U.S. Department of State was guided in the preparation of its reports by information from various NGOs, which does not always reflect the real state of affairs in the republic.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic urged to re-check the published information.

Earlier, the U.S. Department of State published a report on human rights, where, in «Political Prisoners and Detainees» section, it mentioned the leader of Ata Meken party Omurbek Tekebayev and ex-deputy of the Parliament Sadyr Japarov with reference to some experts and observers. The category of political detainees also includes the former prime ministers Sapar Isakov and Jantoro Satybaldiev.
