Organizers of march for equal rights and opportunities ask for protection

Participants of the march for equal rights and opportunities, which was held in Bishkek on March 8, demand from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Central Internal Affairs Directorate to protect them and organizers from aggression. Nadira Masyumova stated this today at a press conference in 24.kg news agency.

According to her, the peaceful march «8/365» was held like 100 years ago, when different groups of women held thousands of campaigns around the world for their rights and freedom.

She noted that on March 8, 2019, the Bishkek City Administration and law enforcement agencies provided the march participants with a safe space, fulfilling their official duties according to all the rules and laws of the country.

«But calls for violence, murder, hate speeches flooded social networks and information space after the march. Yesterday, representatives of Kyrk Choro movement threatened a participant of the march live on TV. The government should respond to such messages. We demand protection not only on March 8, but also all 365 days a year,» Nadira Masyumova stressed.

Recall, representatives of Kyrk Choro movement believe that a gay pride parade was held in the capital of Kyrgyzstan under the guise of a march for equal rights. They even demanded resignation of the mayor of Bishkek, Aziz Surakmatov, and submitted a statement to the Prosecutor General’s Office. The mayor of Bishkek denies the accusations, rightly noting that the city administration acted within the framework of Kyrgyz legislation, permitting the march on March 8.
