Deputy of Federal Assembly explains purpose of Russian air base in Kyrgyzstan

The Bishkek stamping plant will be restructured. It is planned to produce ammunition there. This was announced today at a meeting of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation between the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan and the Federal Assembly of Russia.

Deputy of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Viktor Zavarzin explained why the Russian air base was located in Kyrgyzstan, and stated that Russia intended to increase its military presence in Kyrgyzstan along with military-technical assistance to the republic.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan is Russia’s priority. He called on the General Staff of the Kyrgyz Armed Forces to study carefully the agreement on military-technical cooperation, noting that it was unique and it was necessary to work on the implementation of the agreements.

Viktor Zavarzin added that terrorism was gaining momentum and militant groups were redeploying and grouping in Afghanistan.

«Whether we want it or not, we need to work to ensure security within the CSTO. Our air bases are here for this. Russia is a strong and developed country in military sphere. We are ready to further help Kyrgyzstan,» Viktor Zavarzin said.

The head of the Interparliamentary Commission, member of Onuguu-Progress faction, Tynchtyk Shainazarov, supported him. He stressed that Russia was a strategic partner of Kyrgyzstan.
