Prime Minister: Electricity rate increase is out of question

It is necessary to optimize the expenses of the energy companies. Ulan Ryskulov, Director of the State Committee for Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use of the Kyrgyz Republic told today at a meeting of the government.

«Previously, the heads of energy companies received huge salaries. There is quite another system in the Energy Holding now, but their internal costs should be reduced,» said Ulan Ryskulov.

He also told that the distribution companies did not comply with the standards on reducing electric losses.

«Today, when the society is talking about corruption in the energy sector, it’s hard to raise the rate increase issue. But the tariffs must meet the needs. Prices for coal are rising, and the rates remain the same. It is necessary to link electricity rates to inflation. Gasoline, communication and other things get more expensive, electricity prices should also rise,» the committee chairman said.

The Prime Minister Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev noted that electricity rate increase was out of question.

«First, we need to ensure transparency in the energy sector and earn the people’s trust,» the head of the Cabinet of Ministers replied.
