Former Defense Minister of Kyrgyzstan fined, deprived of general rank

Former Defense Minister Taalaybek Omuraliev was deprived of the rank of Major General. Own sources informed 24.kg news agency.

It is specified that the decision was taken by Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek.

Taalaybek Omuraliev was named in the criminal case on illegal distribution of apartments for military men.

«He and other defendants were found guilty of abuse of office. In general, 10 people were named in the case. All of them were members of the commission. The presiding judge, Abdrazak Borombaev, sentenced Omuraliev to pay a fine of 5 million soms and deprived him of the rank of Major General. With respect to the rest, the court issued a verdict on the termination of the criminal case after the expiry of the statute of limitations of the crime,» 24.kg news agency reported.

It is known that servicemen intend to appeal the verdict in the higher instance court.

There is the acting deputy chief of the General Staff Kubanychbek Orozmatov among the defendants.

In 2014, the military prosecutor’s office conducted a check of the distribution of official apartments in Dzhal microdistrict among the servicemen of the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Armed Forces. As a result, the supervisory authority instituted criminal proceedings against officials on the articles «Abuse of official position,» «Service forgery» and «Negligence» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
