Kyrgyzstan introduces coal price regulation because of problems at border

The Ministry of Economy of Kyrgyzstan proposes to introduce additional regulation of prices for coal. The draft resolution was put up for public discussion.

It indicates that at present the issue of providing consumers with coal at affordable prices is acute. Despite the fact that the state antimonopoly body has set wholesale prices for fuel for coal-mining enterprises, it reaches the final consumer through intermediaries.

The monitoring results showed that for the month prices increased by 20 percent. On average, a ton of coal costs 4,325 soms in the republic.

The main reasons for the increase in price are problems on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border and the ban on export of coal by the Kazakh authorities.

The Government of the Kyrgyz Republic has the right to introduce state regulation of retail prices for socially important goods in order to protect consumer rights and develop competition for a period not exceeding 90 calendar days.

Specialists should analyze prices in the regions to determine the final cost of a ton of the fuel.
