Roza Otunbaeva joins UN High Level Advisory Board on Mediation

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the establishment of a High Level Advisory Board on Mediation. Russian media reported.

The Board is comprised of 18 people. President of Chile Michelle Bachelet, member of the Constitutional Council of Sri Lanka Radhika Coomaraswamy, ex-president of Finland Tarja Halonen, former Foreign Affairs Minister of Jordan Nasser Judeh, ex-Foreign Affairs Minister of Algeria Ramtane Lamamra, former opposition leader of Kyrgyzstan and ex-president Roza Otunbayeva, ex-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala Gert Rosenthal, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby and others are among them.

The board was set up to «raise diplomacy for the sake of peace» and to increase the UN’s ability to conduct effective diplomacy and mediation at all levels.

Antonio Guterres announced the introduction of a new strategy for gender equality in the UN, according to which by 2021 there should be an equal number of men and women on the leading posts of the world organization.
