MegaCom's top management lawyers to turn to UN Human Rights Committee

Lawyers of the defendants in MegaCom case will appeal to the UN Human Rights Committee. The lawyer Abaz Mambetakunov informed 24.kg news agency.

According to him, on May 13, the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan upheld the verdicts of the two previous instances against Almazbek Abekov, ex-adviser to the head of Alfa Telecom CJSC and other defendants. Since all stages of the judicial procedure in the Kyrgyz Republic have been passed, according to the procedure, lawyers will submit documents to the UN Committee.

«We are preparing everything now. In a month or a month and a half, we will submit it. In addition, there are hearings in Liechtenstein. Its court seized $ 2 million that Abekov, allegedly, illegally transferred from the accounts of MegaCom. The arrest was prolonged in November 2016 after the verdict of the Bishkek City Court," Abaz Mambetakunov explained.

Almaz Abekov was sentenced to 25 years in prison with confiscation of property. He must pay 91 million soms in favor of the mobile operator. Former head of CJSC Azamat Murzaliyev got 12 years, and ex-director of Stroy-Service Nurlan uulu Aman — 8 years in prison.
