A recreation area may be created on the site of Bishkek landfill. International expert on solid waste management Janis Prols told journalists.
Recall, the current sanitary landfill is closed. Mayor’s Office the capital received a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and Investment Fund of the European Union for Central Asia (EU IFCA). They are intended for remediation of the old landfill and the creation of a new one. In 2015, a piece of land for a new landfill was chosen.
After remediation of the old landfill, the area of 36 hectares in its place will be clean. It is planned to plant grass on the entire area to prevent soil washout.
«There is already a similar example in Riga. People have a rest on the site of a former landfill now, there is considered a possibility of installing of a cable way. After reclamation of Bishkek sanitary landfill, people will live on normal territory with a good landscape. You can create a recreation area here also," Janis Prols said.
Note, Stroydormashservis LLC and Tana company won the tender for the rehabilitation of the landfill.
