Local elections: Kamchybek Tashiev orders to "thoroughly check each candidate"

«Thoroughly check each candidate running for local councils and exclude suspicious persons from the list,» the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan (SCNS) ordered the relevant government agencies. Kamchybek Tashiev said this during a meeting with border guards in Batken region.

He also warned all officials and government agencies not to interfere in the elections to local councils.

«We must run the state fairly. Government agencies should not interfere in the elections. No one will put pressure on us like before. We want the deputies to be fair and serve the people and the country. We are trying to cleanse of those involved in corruption, of those tainted by crime... We must check each candidate from the parties running for elections. If they are involved in crime or corruption, if their relatives are involved, then it is necessary to exclude them from the lists... As a politician who participated in the elections, I experienced everything myself. Where are those who forced people to vote the way they wanted now? » Kamchybek Tashiev said.

Earlier, the head of the SCNS stated that Ata Zhurt party would not participate in the local elections.

The head of state signed the Law «On administrative-territorial units at the level of aiyl aimaks and cities», which provides for the consolidation of administrative-territorial units in Kyrgyzstan and the approval of their administrative boundaries. In general, the administrative boundaries of 235 united aiyl aimaks and 33 cities of republican, regional and district significance are approved. As a result of the administrative-territorial reform, the area of Bishkek increased from 12,900 to 38,600 hectares.

The presidential decree «On the dissolution of local councils and calling the elections of deputies of local councils» was issued on September 6. At least 484 local councils are subject to dissolution. Elections of deputies of 249 local councils (list is at the link) are scheduled for November 17.
