Sadyr Japarov explained why Askar Akayev’s portrait will not be hung in Yntymak Ordo, and also about his mistakes. The President gave another interview to Kabar state news agency.
According to the head of state, it is not about Akayev not worthy of having his portrait in the gallery, Sadyr Japarov assessed the contribution of the first president of the country to the development of Kyrgyzstan as very great.
«It is Askar Akayev who is at the forefront of many good things that have been implemented in the country. But the essence of life is this: you can do good deeds 99 times, but make a mistake just once, and this will not be forgiven,» he said.
The President explained where and how Askar Akayev stumbled. He explained that this is not his personal judgment, but the assessment given by the majority of Kyrgyzstanis.
«First: he failed to control the privatization program. The officials in power plundered the people’s property. They destroyed working factories and plants and sold the machines abroad. Second: agriculture was destroyed under his rule. Akayev is not to blame here — he is not a farmer, he is a scientist. We can blame the incompetent minister-demagogue for the destruction of the agricultural sector. A strong minister should have been appointed to lead this industry, for example, like the late Zhumgalbek Amanbayev. Askar Akaevich also made mistakes in choosing personnel.
Thirdly, and this is his main mistake — he should not have brought the situation in the country to the point, where the people overthrew him. He should have left (the post of president — Note of 24.kg news agency) after 10 years of rule,» Sadyr Japarov said.
According to him, it is typical for a person that if you see the same politician for a very long time, people get tired of him. «No matter how good he was, people still get tired of seeing the same face. That is why in many countries of the world the presidential term is limited to one term of 7 years or two terms of 4-5 years. This rule is applied for a reason. It was introduced taking into account world experience. Man is a weak creature. Or is power that sweet? I don’t know,» the head of state commented.
If Askar Akayev had not brought the country to the well-known situation, when the people forced him to leave his post, perhaps his portrait would have adorned the gallery of outstanding personalities and statesmen in the new «White House».
Sadyr Japarov recalled that the deputies of the Parliament refused to restore Akayev’s status as ex-president.
«That is why we must learn the lessons of history. The minority must reckon with the majority. I repeat, you can do 99 wonderful things and make only one mistake, and the people will not forgive this one mistake. Yes, good things are quickly forgotten, but bad things never. We will try not to make mistakes. We will develop and renew the country, and we will do it ourselves. Then the people will appreciate and respect us,» Sadyr Japarov summed up.
Earlier, Sadyr Japarov noted Apas Dzhumagulov’s significant contribution to the development of Kyrgyzstan. In particular, as head of government, when the country was in a difficult situation, he found a way out of the political and economic crisis. Sadyr Japarov emphasized that thanks to Apas Dzhumagulov’s leadership, the country has entered the path of sustainable development.
He said that portraits of such outstanding personalities and statesmen as Apas Dzhumagulov should adorn the walls of state institutions.
