The national football team of Kyrgyzstan has secured a berth at the 2027 Asian Cup, and for the first time in history got into the third round of qualifying games for the World Cup.
Late in the evening of June 11, the national team of Kyrgyzstan played a draw with the national team of Oman (1:1) in the final match of the second round of the combined qualifying games for the 2026 World Cup and the 2027 Asian Cup. The match took place as part of the sixth round of the Asia zone.
Thanks to the draw, the Kyrgyz team scored 11 points and took second place in the group, Oman took the first place (13 points). Malaysia finished the tournament in third place with 10 points, while Chinese Taipei did not score a single point.
The head coach of the national team of Kyrgyzstan, Stefan Tarkovic, commented on the team’s success: «The match was difficult, both teams showed excellent football. Despite the difficult climatic conditions, the game was dynamic and intense. I am proud of my team and each of its players. The final result of today’s match is fair, both teams were equal.»
The Kyrgyz Football Union published a video of Kamchybek Tashiev, head of the KFU, celebrating the success of Kyrgyzstan’s national team together with the football players.
