Kempir-Abad case: Prosecutors ask 20 years in prison for accused

Prosecutors requested 20 years in prison for the defendants in the so-called Kempir-Abad case. Human rights activist Aziza Abdirasulova told 24.kg news agency.

The case is considered in court behind closed doors.

«One of the accused, Nurlan Asanbekov, needs urgent hospitalization due to his health condition. I came to accompany him. The defendants leaving the courtroom told us that the state prosecutors ask 20 years in prison with confiscation of property for all defendants. I didn’t believe it at first. But the information was confirmed by several defendants,» Aziza Abdirasulova told.

  • The Committee for protection of Kempir-Abad reservoir was created on October 22, 2022. It includes activists, politicians and MPs. Mass arrests began on October 23. Authorities placed 27 people in jail on charges of preparing for riots. Currently, 8 people remain in custody.
  • A number of international human rights organizations such as the International Partnership for Human Rights (IPHR), the World Organization Against Torture (OMCT), the Norwegian Helsinki Committee (NHC), the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights (HFHR), Freedom Now and others issued a statement calling for the immediate release of politicians and activists arrested in Kyrgyzstan.
