Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan Avazbek Atakhanov met with the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Kyrgyzstan with residence in Tashkent Mohammad Islam Monirul. The press service of the Foreign Ministry reported.
Avazbek Atakhanov thanked Bangladesh for organizing the first political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries, which took place in April 2024. The parties confirmed their mutual interest in the development of Kyrgyzstan-Bangladesh relations with an emphasis on trade and economic cooperation, especially in the textile, agricultural, pharmaceutical, and tourism sectors, paying special attention to the activation of cultural and humanitarian ties between the two countries, as well as exchange of visits at the highest and high levels.
For his part, Ambassador of Bangladesh Mohammad Islam Monirul thanked for providing prompt information about the incident on May 13 and the timely measures taken to resolve the situation on May 18.
The parties agreed to continue joint work to protect the interests of their citizens in the Kyrgyz Republic and Bangladesh, and to intensify cooperation between the consular services of the two countries.
The Kyrgyz side expressed its readiness to provide the necessary assistance in organizing meetings of the Ambassador of Bangladesh with government bodies of the Kyrgyz Republic and Bangladeshi citizens who are in the Kyrgyz Republic.
A spontaneous protest against foreigners, which began in the evening of May 17 in Bishkek, ended only in the morning of May 18. The police managed to come to an agreement with the protesters, and they opened Chui Avenue, and dispersed a little later.
Following a fight on May 13 in a hostel, which was one of the reasons for the protests, the police detained four citizens of Egypt; they were later placed under house arrest. A criminal case was initiated under the article «Hooliganism» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic.
