Gymnasiums and lyceums in Kyrgyzstan may lose their status

The Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan will develop criteria and an independent system for evaluating the work of schools-gymnasiums and lyceums. The ministry reported.

In case of non-compliance with the requirements and low level of student performance, these organizations will be transformed into regular schools.

«The emphasis is on improving the quality of education in gymnasiums and lyceums, since teachers receive salary supplements of 15 and 20 percent, respectively, for the status of the school and the work of additional clubs. At least 1,013 billion soms are allocated annually from the republican budget for additional payments to teachers, while there are schools with a low level of quality of education,» the statement says.

The Ministry of Education and Science reminds that the accreditation of schools has been cancelled.

Therefore, in order to improve the quality of educational services provided, an independent assessment system is necessary.
