No Kyrgyzstanis among victims of unrest in Ecuador

There are no Kyrgyzstanis among those injured or killed during the unrest in Ecuador. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported with reference to the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in the USA and Canada.

There are no citizens of Kyrgyzstan registered at the consulate in Ecuador.

«On January 8, the President of Ecuador Daniel Noboa issued a decree introducing a state of emergency in the country for a period of 60 days, which also includes a curfew from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. The ministry strongly recommends to refrain from traveling within Ecuador and, in general, from visiting this country at this time,» the Foreign Ministry said.

In case of an emergency, citizens of Kyrgyzstan can contact the hotlines of the consular department of the ministry: +996999312002 and the embassy: +12022562924.

According to media reports, the state of emergency was introduced due to the escape from prison of the leaders of two criminal groups. Riots began after the decree. Later, the country’s president assessed the situation in the country as an «internal armed conflict» and, by his decree, authorized the security forces to use lethal weapons against 22 groups, which he called terrorist. Armed bandits set fire to cars on city streets and clash with the police. More than 10 people became victims of the riots.
