At year-end 2023, the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan received 77 applications on media activities. Deputy minister Chyngyz Esengul uulu announced at a press conference.
According to him, these are statements of a different nature, not only about closing this or that website.
«We do not make a decision to close a particular site. If a citizen or legal entity contacts us with a complaint about the media that they are being slandered or misinformed, only in this case will we consider the application. We monitor the work of the media outlet about which a complaint has been received for 24 hours. If this is confirmed by documents, then we first send a warning. We have no idea of closing the media today or tomorrow. As you know, there is freedom of speech in Kyrgyzstan,» the official noted.
He added that media representatives and bloggers must provide reliable information.
