The working group on finalizing the draft law on Mass Media held its first meeting. Officials of the Presidential Executive Office said that the first revised version of the bill, taking into account the proposals voiced, would be submitted by December 31. The next meeting is scheduled for January 23.
The final version must be agreed before March 1, 2023.
At a roundtable discussion on freedom of speech in Kyrgyzstan, which was held in November, journalists, independent lawyers, media experts and officials of the Information Policy Service of the Presidential Executive Office agreed to create a working group and work together to finalize the draft of a new law on Mass Media.
The document, which was previously submitted for public discussion, was criticized.
Lawyers of Adilet Legal Clinic earlier, having analyzed the draft law, emphasized that it contains serious risks of illegal and unacceptable deviations from the guarantees of human rights to freedom of expression.
