President Japarov meets with UNESCO Director General

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov met with UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay in Paris (France). The press service of the head of state reported.

Before the meeting, Sadyr Japarov left an entry in UNESCO’s book of honored visitors with his best wishes for the organization. Audrey Azoulay thanked the President for the positive decision to participate in the 42nd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris, noting the role of Kyrgyzstan in the activities of the organization.

She mentioned the initiatives of Kyrgyzstan to preserve glaciers, which are supported by UNESCO; for their part, they are ready for multilateral cooperation.

Audrey Azoulay outlined with satisfaction the active position of Kyrgyzstan in matters of cooperation with UNESCO in preserving the cultural and historical heritage of mankind.

In turn, the President noted the personal contribution of Audrey Azoulay to the successful implementation of reforms in the process of strategic transformation that is currently underway at UNESCO, especially in the reform of UNESCO regional field offices.

In order to further strengthen bilateral cooperation with the organization, the Kyrgyz side decided to be re-elected to the governing body of UNESCO, Sadyr Japarov said. He noted that Kyrgyzstan is ready to continue to be active in UNESCO’s mandated areas and make its contribution to the development and promotion of the organization’s values.

Sadyr Japarov emphasized that Kyrgyzstan highly values UNESCO’s support for glacier conservation and water resources management.

Discussing the topic of environmental protection, the President noted that issues of ecology, conservation of biological diversity, providing future generations with a clean, safe and stable environment, rational use of natural resources based on the principles of sustainable development remain priorities for Kyrgyzstan.

«The parties expressed their readiness to develop cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and UNESCO, in particular in the field of education, in the field of preservation of intangible cultural heritage, and also promote further plans for the implementation of joint programs,» the statement says.
