JIA Business Association sent a letter to the Minister of Economy of Kyrgyzstan Daniyar Amangeldiev with a request to initiate an extension of the duty-free import of electric vehicles into the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). Appeal of the organization says.
Duty-free import is proposed to be introduced for three years without restrictions in quantity. JIA recalled that last year, by decision of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission, duty-free imports were allowed under a quota. For Kyrgyzstan, it is set at 5,000 electric vehicles in 2022 and 10,000 in 2023.
«The electric vehicle market began to develop in Kyrgyzstan in 2022 and has only begun to gain momentum. Exemption from customs duties provides a good incentive for the demand for electric vehicles and the development of a network of charging stations. Electric vehicles offer a number of advantages and benefits for individual users, society and the national economy. Therefore, we ask you to initiate extension of the duty-free import of electric vehicles to the interested countries of the EAEU. This opportunity would give a good impetus to the development of electric vehicles and a network of charging stations,» the letter says.
The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has already initiated consideration of such a document. Quota for Kyrgyzstan for 2024 is asked to be set at 15,000 cars, for 2025 — 20,000 cars. No unanimous decision was made on the issue. Consideration will continue in September.
