The Jar-Bashy Cooperative in Chon-Alai district of Osh region created 220 new jobs and increased sales with U.S.-provided equipment through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Agro Trade project. The U.S. Embassy in the Kyrgyz Republic reports.
The new equipment (valued at 4.3 million soms) and associated technical training supported Jar Bashy’s ability to expand and increase its capacity to sort and process seed potatoes, which improves the quality of their products to meet export standards.
«Having a seed calibration warehouse to ensure the purity and uniformity of seed fractions is important to ensure quality control and traceability at all stages of production. It contributes to long-term, sustainable sales of quality seed, thus expanding sales markets and increasing exports,» Abduvaliev Sultanaly, head of the Jar-Bashy Cooperative, said.
The expansion benefits local farmers who can supply seed potatoes to the cooperative.
«Expanding market access opportunities and supporting trade growth has always been a top priority for USAID as it is the best way to expand the economy and increase incomes for Kyrgyz people. We believe that this partnership will contribute to the production of quality seed potatoes, which will lead to increased sales and exports, as well as new job opportunities,» Joshua Templeton, USAID Economic Development Office Director, noted.
The USAID Kyrgyz Republic Agro Trade Activity works to increase jobs and incomes in the Kyrgyz Republic by enhancing the competitiveness of Kyrgyz agricultural businesses and expanding trade opportunities with Uzbekistan.
