JIA Association: Laws on NGOs and media will limit ability of media to work

The Executive Director of JIA Business Association Azzambek Jeenbai uulu stressed the significant role of NGOs and the media in the life of civil society and in the country as a whole. Press service of the organization shared his comment.

The head of JIA noted that non-profit organizations are independent observers who give an objective assessment in their direction. It is also an institution engaged in social, legal, spiritual education of the population, youth, women, business and others, in order to achieve public benefits. Now the Cabinet of Ministers and deputies propose the bills on NGOs and the media, which cause great concern in civil society.

This opinion is shared by JIA Business Association, other business communities, the media and a number of deputies of the Parliament.

«The political basis of the Constitution of Kyrgyzstan is based on such principles as independence, sovereignty and democracy. However, the proposed bills on NGOs and the media may limit a number of rights of civil society participants in the choice of areas of activity and freedom of speech. These bills can seriously limit the ability of NGOs and the media to work effectively and make a positive contribution to the development of the country,» Azzambek Jeenbai uulu believes.

«We call on the Cabinet of Ministers to take into account the opinion of civil society related to the bills on NGOs and the media, as well as to take into account the importance and value of the role of NGOs and independent media in developing democracy, protecting human rights and ensuring transparency in society,» he concluded.
